Eartha is a happy sea turtle who lives in the ocean. She has many friends like Mr. Crab, lobster, clam and squid. She loves to swim with the fish and other creatures in the ocean. One day while swimming Eartha gets caught in some string that had been thrown into the water. It wrapped around her fins and her shell. This frightened her. She asked her friends to help her but the string was too strong. When night time came Eartha floated to the surface and cried. She did not know what to do. Soon a man in a boat comes and takes her on his boat. When she awakens the next morning she is free of the string but she is not home in the ocean. She meets another turtle who explains that she is safe and that the man on the boat was here to help her and other animals that get hurt from the trash that people throw into the ocean and sea. Eartha was set free and found her way back to the ocean to be with her friends.

This is an excellent story to introduce children to the importance of protecting our seas, oceans and the the sea creatures who live there. Eartha is a real turtle who was rescued by the Loggerhead Marinelife Center of Juno Beach, Florida. Parents and Teachers can use this book as a tool to teach children about pollution and organizations like the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
