Mr. Irion and Mr. Watlkins have done it again.  Which doesn't surprise me in the least.  The series is called The Summit Murder Mysteries and the books all take place on the highest point of the world's seven continents.  This is the third in the series.  The first being the tales:  Abandoned on Everest (Asia) which is a prequel to Murder on Everest.  The next being Murder
on Elbrus (Europe).
And now, Murder on Mt. McKinley (Alaska) which, in my humble opinion, is the best yet.

The main character, Scott Devlon, an experienced mountain climber is planning to go on a climb up Mt. McKinley and, from the beginning is not really happy with some of the so called mountaineers who are also making the climb.  Scott realizes that this mountain, although not as rough as some of the others he has climbed, can be deadly for some who believe that this is just a walk in the park.  There are some interesting people involved in this climb.  There are two Ranger Guides, Scott, a reporter that Scott has met before who is not all that ethical, some executives of an oil company who are planning to build a pipeline in Alaska and a couple of environmentalists who have their own agenda.  The climb starts out smoothly enough until the group approaches the summit and then everything falls apart and there are casualties among the group.  I'd like to go on with the tale but, that would completely spoil the plot for readers.

So, just know that this is a wonderful adventure and remember there is more to come.  Messrs Irion and Watkins have a lot more undertakings to write about in the next books.  Keep in mind there are seven major mountains in the world and four more wonderful books to come.  Each summit is found in a different corner of the world and each mystery will be unique to the next.  Not knowing anything about mountaineering at all was not a problem as the authors explain every fact of the climbs.  Which is a good thing for me as I only like to look at snow out the window.  I'm also eagerly awating the next volume which is called Murder on Puncak Jaya (Oceania).
