know the title says FOR KIDS, but this is also a great book for
adults. The introduction begins by having the children ask for
permission and/or guidance from a parent or caretaker. It is suggested
that the whole recipe be read through before beginning the combining of
ingredients. Cautions are given when handling the tools and heat (this
is where the adult help and supervision becomes important). Frosting
is said to be the most important part of decorating a cake and it can
be very messy. I even learned something new about frosting (putting
little pieces of waxed paper under the bottom of the cake and remove
when done frosting – to keep frosting drips off your cake plate). There are recipes for chocolate and vanilla buttercream frosting and coloring and decorating with frosting. The
photography is wonderful, showing every detail on each cake eliminating
any mistakes on how the finished product should look. There is a
diagram for each cake and the size pan that should be used for cakes
such as a Candy Cane, Penguin, Angel, Santa, Mitten, Star and many more. The
theme of this book is Christmas, but many of the cakes could be adapted
for other occasions. Melissa Barlow, the author, is a freelance writer
and editor who has formal training in cake decorating. She is the
co-author of two other food related books and resides in Bountiful, Utah
with her family. Parents and children alike will enjoy making the twenty-five different cake designs. Click Here To Purchase Easy Christmas Cut-up Cakes for Kids
