For any reader who fell in love with the Danger Zone Series when the first novel was released (The Devil’s Breath), boy are you going to be as happy as I am that the sequel has arrived. These books zone in on so many completely cool subjects like eco-science, religion, murder, X-treme sports, etc., that you wonder when Jason Bourne or Indiana Jones, even, is going to appear.

The adrenaline rush begins on page one where we find Max Gordon on the side of a mountain in the French Pyrenees. He literally has just escaped Namibia where he rescued his father in Book I and is now freezing his everything off while he tries to save his best friend Sayid who has fallen and broken his leg. Max can see the mammoth blankets of snow hanging precariously from the rocks above their heads and he knows that he only has a minute to figure out how to get both of them down the mountain ahead of the obvious avalanche that’s threatening their lives. Quickly, he throws Sayid over his shoulder, hits the snowboard, and twists and turns at break-neck speeds to get them out of the horrific situation. And he makes it…just.

Back in the ski village of Mont la Croix, Sayid is taken care of by the hospital employees, while Max gets ready for the X-treme snowboard competition that is happening the next day. As he walks down the dark street he sees a person dressed all in black racing through the village. Behind the figure are a group of motorbikes that seem bent on chasing the runner down.

Max sees the horrifying show happen right before his eyes and wastes no time in saving the figure clad in black from the hunters. Turns out, as the runner’s hood is lifted, Max sees a young woman by the name of Sophie whose family is trying desperately to stop the illegal trade of animals. Seeing as that she’s used to the threats and violence that seem to follow her all day, every day, she thanks Max and explains to him that if she can ever do anything for him to let her know.

When the X-treme sports challenge happens the next day, it soon becomes an absolute race for Max to survive, especially when he sees a mysterious Basque monk who screams out a cryptic sentence right before he plummets to his death. Max soon finds himself on the trail of a prophecy that may or may not come true.

From chapter to chapter new adventures come up that include everything from environmental dangers to ancient mysticism, as readers follow Max through his next adventure and see a “glimmer” of excitement for the next book to come. A pure adrenalin rush! Enjoy!
