This unbelievable cyber-thriller for young adults is not only a completely fascinating novel, but also one of the most “creepy” things I’ve ever read. I mean “creepy” in a very positive way, guys and gals; this story will make everyone, both adults and young adults, think twice before going to “play” on their computers. Not since Orwell introduced me to 1984 have I been this “alert” as to the cyber world that, literally, knows everything there is to know about me.

Our main character is Sam Wilson. Sam Wilson is the ultimate hacker (as so many of our young adults are nowadays). He’s seventeen years old when he hacks his way into a high-tech communications company and, a lot like the movie War Games, he literally brings the whole United States to a halt. Then, on a dare, he does the unthinkable and hacks into the White House. I, for one, would’ve been extremely frightened if my doorbell rang later that same afternoon which, for Sam, is exactly what happens.

A whole secret government section has been put together by the U.S. to protect and stop things like this from happening, and they are most definitely out for Sam’s blood. However, because of the ridiculously huge mistakes that Sam has made, not only is he number one on the most wanted list, but also all races – all of humanity – becomes a threat and perhaps scheduled for termination.

The story becomes a fantastic adventure as Sam tries his best to stop what he, himself, put in motion in the first place, and save his friends at the same time. However, with a government team dedicated to stopping cyber-terrorism, it is almost impossible for Sam to correct his mistake because he has to completely avoid going on a computer.

There are so many twists and turns that readers won’t put this book down. However, let me tell you, the strange eerie feeling in the pit of your stomach as you read this will be with you for days. Watching a young computer hacker try to stop the world from being “deleted” is intriguing and downright frightening all at the same time. Why, frightening? Because it seems to me that with all the electronic products surrounding us in our daily lives, that this book leans more toward actual facts than an imaginative fictional concept created inside a human mind.

Now…this author certainly does have a fantastic imagination, however. When I read his first book, The Tomorrow Code, which was published in 2008, I was completely taken with the innovative way Mr. Falkner portrays his characters and ideas, so it is certainly a compliment to him that this, his second book, is a complete thrill ride while still being able to make the reader more than a bit “shaky.” Believe me, after reading this one, you will take a good long look and perhaps have a change of heart over the “fun” of simple things like Facebook and Twitter.
