Good day Julie and thanks for
participating in our interview.
Norm:
Julie, what do you think over the
years has driven you as a writer?
Julie:
I am driven by my fascination with people and what motivates them to say and act as they do. I have always preferred writing over speaking, especially in difficult situations, and I find that writing allows me that luxury of time for a second thought, and perhaps a better way of expressing myself.
Norm:
Did you know the end of Jadine at
the beginning?
Julie:
Yes, Jadine is based on the life of an anonymous person, whose overall story was told to me in about forty-five minutes one day in a coffee shop by a complete stranger. Fascinated by the story, I raced home to outline it. In the process, the name Jadine, popped into my head. It just seemed to fit, so I stayed with it.
Norm:
Do you write from your own
experiences? And as a follow up, are the characters in Jadine
based on people you know or have encountered or are they strictly
fictional?
Julie:
Certainly my personal experiences creep into my writing, as I believe it must for every author. The characters in Jadine, however, are predicated on the true tale told to me. Some of their attributes had to be my interpretation, since I didn’t know them first-hand.
Norm:
How did you develop the plot and
characters in Jadine? Did you use any set formula?
Julie:
No, no formula. In Jadine, I followed
the story very closely as it was related to me.
Norm:
What was the most difficult part of
writing Jadine?
Julie:
Eliciting and maintaining the reader’s
understanding and compassion for Jadine Tomecelli.
Norm:
What do you think makes a good story?
Julie:
Any subject can make a good story, as
long as it resonates with, and holds the attention of, a reader. My
three novels are very different from each other, and I am well aware
that they might not all appeal to every reader, although I know each
one individually is a good story.
Norm:
Are you working on any
books/projects that you would like to share with us? (We would
love to hear all about them!)
Julie:
I am writing about my experiences in
the Dominican Republic, first as a vacationer, and then as a
homeowner. While my hesitation is: Who would want to read about
that?, I am aware of the current popularity of memoirs. We will just
have to see what story comes onto the paper over the next few months.
Norm:
Where can our readers find out
more about you and Jadine?
Julie:
On my website: www.juliebiggveazey.com:
and on www.amazon.com
Norm:
Is there anything else you wish
to add that we have not covered?
Julie:
Just that I never thought I’d be
having so much fun in my latter 70s. Writing keeps me energized and
constantly interested in what is happening in life all around me,
every day.
Norm:
Julie, Thanks once again and good
luck with all of your future endeavors.
