Finally!  A book that actually says, you’re probably never going to look like those people on TV, and describes in detail how to be happier, healthier, and IMPERFECTLY fit.  It’s about time!  I, for one, agreed with this author from the word go.  As a person who has struggled with weight loss issues all my life (I’ve lost almost two hundred pounds and kept it off for the last three years.  Oh, yeah…THAT big…) I was entranced and excited to finally read something that says these so-called celebrity experts are all show, and really have no true understanding of what it’s like to struggle every day.  Only Richard Simmons, the master, can say that he has truly fought obesity and won.

This author has told the truth.  Two to three pounds a week is what all the national and federal studies show about weight loss being “good” for your health.  Making people believe that it’s a good thing for your body to lose fifteen or twenty pounds in a week is frightening; these people not only end up in the hospital, but they end up gaining it all back in less than a year anyway.  Real people with real lives that have real needs and real children vying for their time, do not have the time to carry around calorie counting cards, use diuretics or any kind of mythical weight-loss pill, and usually can’t afford the cost of a machine that gives you a rock-hard body if used twenty minutes a day, three times a week, for only six weeks.  Weight loss is very much like weight gain – time and a full commitment is necessary for either.

Michelle Pearl says weight loss is mostly a leap of faith and a commitment to change your expectations.  Don’t get upset when you don’t have a ten pound weight loss in three days.  You shouldn’t; your body wasn’t made that way.  The commercials, the potions, and the pills, are debunked by this woman who is not perfect – but certainly healthy and happy.  It would be lovely to own Harry Potter’s magic wand and be able to do things quick, painlessly, and easily, but it doesn’t exist.

Our brains are what we need to change our mindset.  We need, as a country, to understand that 5-10 million women and girls, and over one million men suffer from anorexia or bulimia, and 20% of those people end up in the grave quicker than if they’d been overweight and smoked twenty years of their lives.  In addition, the first chapter of this book focuses on the research that has been done in the realm of metabolic starvation and the ongoing problems overweight people face every day.

Read this.  Understand the words.  Quick fixes don’t work, and we should come to that conclusion before it’s too late.  Putting a celebrity on a “perfect” mountain of perfect health, beauty, and fitness is just wrong – and it hurts us in the end.  My advice?  Buy this book and go check out this author’s website which is www.imperfectfitness.com.  You’ll be very glad you did.
