This novel was so busy that I read it in one sitting.  An exciting book, the first in a series about the Deadly Sins.  It certainly makes you want to read all the others.

Jake Chase is a former lawyer, who practiced at a prestigious firm in New York and is now head of the Anti-Terrorism Unit of the FBI.  He is investigating a terrorist plot to blow up the UN building with the President of the United States inside when the book opens.  Along with the men in his unit he corners the terrorists on the street and through many intricate manouvers he shoots one of them and then follows the other two to the top floor of a building and he and his men shoot the others.  However, there is still a problem, the FBI couldn't find a bomb on any of them and they rush to the UN to look for bombs that have been hidden in or around the building.  Finding one and disarming it succeeds but, then another is found and there is no time for the bomb squad to disarm it.  So, Jake grabs it and takes off toward a helicopter that is waiting for a diplomat to board.  He and the pilot take the bomb straight up into the atmosphere, jump out of the helicopter into the East River and the bomb blows up in the air not hurting anyone.  Jake is a hero and can't wait to get home to his wife to try and convince her that it's all in a days work.

The interesting thing is that the so-called terrorists may not be terrorists at all.  Or at least, a different type of terrorist who is not after just killing Americans but, getting revenge because of an incident in his past.  After September 11th, it's difficult not to see terrorists behind every bush.  The bad guy in this book is extremely interesting and keeps the story moving.  After the UN, he concentrates on a movie studio in Hollywood and then back to New York and trying to blow up a show at Radio City Music Hall.  Jake is on the case at all times.  There is a very diverse cast of characters including Jake's wife Diane, a former partner in the law firm where Jake practiced and his wife, and Jake's boss in the FBI.  There is never a dull moment in the story as Jake runs from place to place and city to city to find the bad guys.

It is very clear that this is the beginning of a great series and I can't wait to dive into the next book.  I highly recommend this book to all thriller readers and readers that like fast paced adventure.  Mr. Santoro's writing style reminds me very much of Mickey Spillane.  His character of Mike Hammer was a detective who was very hard nosed and didn't ever give up the chase.  The next book is called "Pride" and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.  By the way, Mr. Santoro, thanks for the wonderful ending.
