Today, Andrea Coventry, one of Bookpleasures' reviewers interviews Angela Muse author of
Lil Glimmer.

Good day Angela and thanks for participating in our interview.

Andrea

What is your background?

Angela:

I am currently the Senior Operations Officer for an investment firm in Atlanta , Georgia . I have been writing poems, song lyrics and stories since early adolescence.

Andrea:

How did you get involved in writing children's books?

Angela:

My children enjoy my storytelling so I decided to bring one of my stories to life and the result was Lil Glimmer.

Andrea:

What was the inspiration behind Lil Glimmer?

Angela:

My 2 children, Tyler and Caitlin, have certainly inspired my creativity.

Andrea:

What message are you trying to share?

Angela:

I am constantly stressing the value of patience and sharing to my children so I used this book to illustrate those concepts to them in a way that they can identify with.

Andrea:

What are your hopes and dreams for this book?

Angela:

I love the idea of taking something I have created and putting it out there for others to enjoy. I really love the creative process and writing and I hope there will be others who can share this book with their children.

Andrea:

What do your children think of your book?

Angela:

They absolutely love the character of Lil Glimmer and my oldest has read it several times. I even created some fabric with the Lil Glimmer character on it to sew some pajama's for the kids.

Andrea:

How have you learned more about patience and sharing through parenthood?

Angela:

The biggest thing I struggle with being a working Mom is sharing my time. I look at my time like a bank account so if I make a withdrawal of time for work (extra hours, company function) then I make a deposit of time to my family also by taking a vacation day to spend with them or by leaving the office early some days. Regarding patience, I try to look at my duty as a mother as an educator and it's my job to teach my children about things. You have to take time to explain to your children why they shouldn't do something or what consequences can occur for their actions. I think that is the best way they can learn.

Andrea:

How can parents best instill these values in their children?

Angela:

Talk to your kids....it's that simple. Take time to explain things so they understand. Children are like little sponges waiting to absorb everything we have to offer to them.

Andrea:

How would you like parents to use this book with their kids?

Angela:

I think it's a good bedtime story and will offer an opportunity for parents to discuss patience and sharing with their kids. Parents could ask for examples of showing patience and sharing to ensure that their children understand the concepts.

Andrea:

James McCullough provides some very endearing illustrations. Would you like to work with him again?

Angela:

Of course....he's my brother!

Andrea:

Do you have any other books in the works?

Angela:

Yes, I have several stories written so I just need to work on illustrations. I wrote a story for my brother about a family of acorn nuts and he is working on finalizing those illustrations now.

Andrea:

Have you published any other books?

Angela:

No, Lil Glimmer was my first.

Andrea:

Where can readers find out more about you?

Angela:

My brother has a good website porterlancebooks.blogspot.com.

Andrea:

How can readers contact you?

Angela:

Since my brother and I collaborate, his blog is the best place.

Andrea:

Is there anything else you would like to share with readers?

Angela:

My passion is creative writing and you've got to follow your passion!

Andrea:

Thank you so much for your time!
