Reading Decoding the Lost Symbol – The Unauthorized Expert Guide to the Facts Behind the Fiction- is like eating from the holiday candy box. So many delicious choices, you just want to curl up in a corner and slowly taste them all.

This detailed and well researched guide takes you through all the secret societies, conspiracies, history, and symbols found in Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol. There is enough information here to satisfy even the most die-hard conspirerist.

Organized in alphabetical order each topic is tied into how it is used in Brown’s book and then explained. For example the section on the Hand of the Mysteries begins:

“In The Lost Symbol, the Hand of Mysteries is physically re-created when Mal’akh severs Peter Solomon’s right hand and literally transforms it into the Hand of the Mysteries, when he then places in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. We learn that its fingers have been tattooed , in effect turning a human hand into the symbolic Hand of the Mysteries with a crown on the thumb and a start on the index dinger, followed by a sun , a lantern, and on the little finger, a key.

“The Hand of Mysteries is referenced in the 1928 book called the Secret teachings of All Ages, by the mystic and philosopher Manly P. Hull. It could be said that The Lost Symbol begins and ends with Manly P. Hall.”

Referencing historical dates, events and documents, Cox does an impressive job of enlightening us about the mysteries and secret societies that run throughout Brown’s world. To be read only after you read The Lost Symbol (due to some plot spoilers in the topic descriptions) Decoding the Lost Symbol is a must have resource to those who love the intrigue of secrets and symbols and the possibility that there just might be more to things than we are aware of.

Included in the text are 8 full color pages of items and places referenced in The Lost Code including Albrecht Durer’s Melencolia I, architectural designs for the Washington monument, and the Crypt of the Capital.  This is a true time saver for those (like me) who read Brown’s book while Googling things like “the Apotheosis of Washington”.

Simon Cox was the founding editor in chief of the successful magazine Phenomena. Having studied Egyptology at University College London, he went on to work as a research assistant for some of the biggest names in the alternative history game including Graham Hancock, Robert Bauvel, and David Rohl.
