A great book full of perfidious acts and characters.  Is that not a great word?  I think it's the author's favorite and I kind of like it myself.

The main character, James Cantrill who is the CEO and President of his own business, James Cantrill & Associates, Inc., is a good man who is running a business that sells and maintains medical devices used in knee and/or hip replacement surgery.  His business is located in Lexington, KY but he travels into the mountains to help surgeons with the surgeries that they perform and "stands-in" as he calls it during operations to see that everything goes according to plan.  Unfortunately, something goes wrong during a procedure of a total hip replacement and the patient dies.  James starts his own private investigation into the device that was used and finds discrepancies in the stock number being smudged so badly that it couldn't be read.  And, also it turned out to be the wrong size.

Shortly after this disaster Jim is called to the main office in Indiana and subsequently he is fired with the explanation that he is getting older and cannot handle the business any longer and they proceed to take away everything that Jim and his family have and try to buy him off with money.  The Vice-President of the Company, George Driskell, Sr. is a real snake oil salesman, Lenny Shortt, supposedly a friend of Jims, who is the Sales Veep, and there's a very slippery lawyer who has delusions of running the whole thing someday, are the three musketeers who lower the boom on Jim.  But, our hero will not give in to them and throws their money back in their faces.  FORTUNATELY, Jim has lots of notes and tapes of telephone calls he made regarding the damaged devices and is planning to report them to the FBI.  UNFORTUNATELY, before Jim can do this he is kidnapped.  This is when we get to the title, Code 936.  This is an IRS tax code that benefits huge manufacturers who are making the defective devices and what Jim knows about this will probably get him killed.  Because of his investigation he could bring to light the whole network including his former employer.

I don't want to give away the ending because I've been on the edge of my chair reading this book and don't want to spoil it for other readers.  Suffice to say this story is very powerful with everything from fraud, greed, torture, corruption and last but not least Managed Health Care.  It's disgusting to think that things like this really go on in this world but, they do.  Mr. Kimbrell has a book that describes the modern corporate world.  I'm looking forward to the next.  By the way, have you looked up perfidious yet?  The meaning according to the Oxford Dictionary is treacherous, traitorous or deceitful.

I recommend this to all suspense, mystery, international thriller readers and anything in between.  Enjoy!!!
