Zippora Karz danced for the New York City Ballet for sixteen years in various roles, including soloist. She has travelled all over the world performing, teaching, and speaking. (2009, Inside back cover) She champions diabetes research and teaches ballet for the George Balanchine Trust where she has helped choreograph and coach numerous international dance companies and serves as spokesperson on a variety of topics affiliated with diabetes. Currently she resides in Los Angeles, California.

Zippora Karz family had always been interested in dance and music. Her mother and grandmother both danced semi-professionally and acted as catapults in directing the eminent careers of their children and grandchildren in the areas of dance. Zippora had blessed with an incredible talent from a very young age and excelled especially in ballet. She had teachers who noticed her excellence and helped her to reach her dreams.

Zippora managed to secure summer scholarships at the prestigious School of American Ballet in New York City where her talents were honed further and she was given opportunity to move into the professional dance arena at the New York City Ballet. The competition was fierce and the hours of dance exercise were grueling. Despite the toll on her personal life she managed to excel in academics as well as dance. After being accepted into the New York City Ballet she had opportunity to work with some of the most esteemed persons in this field.

When Zippora’s career had finally taken off and truly blossomed she was diagnosed with diabetes. The diabetes nearly ended her career because she failed to fully acknowledge the highs and lows of her blood sugar as well as take proper or regular care to ensure they were level. Her body was failing her and she desperately needed to take control. Finally after several mishaps and near misses she finds sage counsel in her doctors, family, and friends where she does get control of her condition. Doing so brings her dancing career back to the foreground and helps her to attain the level of soloist where she really soars.

Eventually Zippora’s condition forces her to contemplate what comes after dance. Is there anything after dance? Her life has been so intertwined with dance that separating herself from dance may be impossible. After a few months of relaxation and rest she finds the perfect fit with coaching and teaching. Here she is able to help shape new careers and transform Balanchine’s dreams for his ballet trust into dance reality. At this point she is comfortable in her own skin and accepts her health challenges with eyes wide open.

Throughout this book Zippora’s storied career had its ups and downs, but it was a remarkable story all the same. Her words and her story inspire hope and passion toward realization of dream creation and visualization. It is truly amazing that she was able to overcome a devastating illness and achieve more than she even dreamed was possible. You can too!
