Today, Andrea Coventry, one of bookpleasures' reviewers, interviews Holly Hardin.
Recently, I reviewed a book called Aurora of the Northern Lights. Author Holly Hardin was very kind to take some time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for me.
AC:
What was your inspiration for writing this story?
HH:
After 9/11, I wanted to write a story to teach my nieces to embrace all cultures.
AC:
The verse is beautiful. Do you write any poetry? Can we expect any poetry collections in the future?
HH:
Thank you. I really do not consider myself a poet. I tried several times to write this story in prose but it never seemed right. So, I continued to write it in verse. It took six years to finally get it right.
AC:
What is the message you are trying to convey?
HH:
I want to share a message of tolerance. In these times of uncertainty, we need to reach out to each other in fellowship and not judge others by their differences.
AC:
How does it make you feel when reviewers say this book is destined to become a Christmas classic?
HH:
I am very humbled and grateful that people like my story.
AC:
Donald Vanderbeek's illustrations beautifully capture the essence of your story. Would you like to work together again?
HH:
I was supremely lucky to have Donald illustrate my book. I would love to work with him again on another project.
AC:
What makes Aurora so unique?
HH:
I think what makes Aurora unique is her perseverance and her bravery. No matter what happens she never gives up. Aurora has a quiet, honest inner strength, which I think is a good role model for us all.
AC:
How can families benefit from sharing this title with each other?
HH:
Hopefully families will start reading this story as part of their holiday traditions. I think this book can help start discussions on tolerance and helping those less fortunate.
AC:
What advice do you have for young, aspiring writers?
HH:
Keep a journal to record your thoughts. Write from the heart and stay true to the vision you have for your work.
AC:
Do you have any other published works?
HH:
Yes, I have several articles on spirituality and meditation for both children and adults.
AC:
Should we be on the lookout for any other titles?
HH:
I have two other picture books coming out next year. Be on the lookout for Wendy Wrydwitch and the Sunflower Pumpkin and The Smallest Kid in the Choir.
AC:
Where can readers find out more about you?
HH:
Readers and fans can learn more

AC:
Holly, thank you so much for your time and for your wonderful gift of a book.
