Dear Readers:
This
is an exceptional non-fiction read. Written as a compilation of
interviews with a variety of stars, celebrities, politicians,
writers, singers, dancers - you name it - the information given is
wonderful and, in some cases, eye-opening.
As Americans,
we do have that love of the unknown for people we admire, respect,
and secretly despise (Come on, you know you're out there. Or,
like me, you only buy the Star Magazine for the crossword puzzle.)
Whether we admit it or not, that world is something we all harken to
learn more about. The writers of this wonderful creation
actually sat down, met and spoke with some really amazing people.
Well-known characters such as Clint Eastwood (who I absolutely
admire), and Senator Ted Kennedy (whose recent passing has upset a
great many from the "Camelot" generation are two such
chapters that are not only well-written but well-meaning. I was
also quite surprised that the lesser known figures such as, Crystal
Myrick who is an aspiring reporter, and Clint M. Byars, a wonderful
writer who penned the fantastic story, Devil Walk, were
inspirational to me.
Not only did I get to learn new
avenues of their lives, but these people are doing what they want to
do and reaching for their dreams - no matter how difficult their
dreams are. I think anyone with a dream - small or large -
should pick up this book. Not only will it help you to figure
out the next steps to take in order to get what you want, but it will
also give you the hope and faith you need in order to be the
next...shall we say...Dirty Harry? :)
On a side note,
the publishing/collaboration work that went into putting this book
together was truly inspiring to me. Chase Von apparently
interviewed Ms. Dravis, who is a journalist as well as the author of
three novels. It was mentioned at that time that Chase Von
should put a compilation together of the people he'd spoken to
throughout his career. Ms. Dravis was the one who added her
interviews from when she was a journalist. One in particular
that she had, with the perfect Jane Russell, was really one of my
absolute favorites. The 40's and 50's Hollywood was the
ultimate in glamour. I frequently wish, as Ms. Dravis seems to,
that the "industry" would turn back to those wonderful
days. I mean really, what do mega-stars think nowadays about
movies called Saw V? :)
Enjoy.
