Clova McQueen has been a teacher for twenty years in England and Scotland.
In the year 2003, Clova set up her own health food store. Having lived all her life in the countryside, a surprising fact is that even though her first book is about honey, she never kept a beehive herself. Although Clova prides herself on being a keen gardener and the owner of two Afghan dogs.

I have to be honest, I was one of those people who was always nervous around any type of bees and regarded them as a stinging insect with no other real purpose. I didn’t realise that the honey bees do so much work to make honey. It is safe to say that my thoughts have been converted because I now realise that bees have a huge importance.
This is Clova’s first book that is very well presented and packed full of really interesting facts from the first page to the last. For instance, did you know that honey contains vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, B5 and finally B6? With all these vitamins, it is evident that honey is extremely good for you. So good, Clove points out, that it cures all sorts of ailments.
Got a sore throat? Drinking a warming mixture of the old-fashioned remedy of honey and lemon stops sore throats getting any worse and clears them up perfectly. Arthritis, which is common in older people, can be relieved by taking twice a day one tablespoon of honey with hot water and a teaspoon of cinnamon. Constipation, funnily enough can also be cured by a similar mixture but I won’t tell you how - you’ll have to get the book to find that out!
Honey combs were originally found in the tombs of the Egyptian pharaohs, more than 3000 years ago. There is some interesting information regarding this within this book.
Another rather intriguing fact is that they used to think in Roman times honey was used as a form of money - an alternative to gold. Absolutely fascinating stuff.
Recipes are included in this pocket size handbook. For example: did you know you can make delicious honey smoothies? Or add honey in your tea or coffee as a sugar alternative.
Honey biscuits is a recipe to suit just about everyone. Clova tells you just how to make these tasty biscuits from simple ingredients. If you want to be a little more daring, she also includes another formula to make lovely sweet honey chocolate cake. Absolutely scrumptious!
If it’s the religion surrounding honey you’re after instead of recipes, Clova has a section on that too. She points out that honey is mentioned more then sixty times in the Bible…there are other interesting facts but don’t take my word for it, look it up in Honey for yourself.
There is also a very helpful little chapter on honey and its colours/properties. Did you know there is a type of honey called Heather honey… or what about Lavender honey for that matter? Truly great information to be had and devoured!
This book is presented in such a lovely and attractive way. The contents page is neatly set out with a pot of honey pictured at the top, capturing the true essence of what this handbook is all about. You’ll discover everything there is to know about this sweet, syrupy nectar. So what are you waiting for? Pick it up and allow yourself to have a taste of Clova’s wonderful book.
