The sections of the book are laid out in an easily navigated format – everything from “teachers and healers” to “must-know info” by experts.  

The stories are obviously from cat lovers – and I am one of them (Pookie, by Sue Vogan – page 89). Cats intrigue me -- now, more than ever, since reading The Ultimate Cat Lover. By seeing other people’s experience with felines, I see that I am not alone. Cats are very special animals. I have realized that we, humans who love cats, are special, as well. From the first purr to their final passing, cats bring us joy, comfort, and unconditional love.

This book expresses most everything about our feline friends – magical moments, humorous histories, and soothing situations – all involving our precious cats. The photographs are exceptional. Everything from playful to sleeping, they are darlings.  

The chapter, What People Do To Annoy Us, was extremely helpful. Trying to get a cat into a pet carrier can be trying, at best. I learned that if the carrier is left out and a treat offered every time the purring puffball goes in, they “wouldn’t mind so much going to Grandma’s or the veterinary clinic.”  Also, placement of the litter box is everything and “sweet kitty kisses” are as easy as a trip to the vet.

Changes are difficult for humans – why wouldn’t we think changes are handled any better by cats? Changes in food, environment, etc. can be stressful. We often forget that our pets can be stressed and more often, we miss the signs of the stress.  

And did you know there’s a “feline body language” used to communicate with humans?

We had a most recent experience with this – our cat jumped off a bookcase, missed the landing spot, broke his neck and died instantly. This left a huge hole in our household, but finding another cat we thought would be impossible (Skeeter was the life of the party and we decided another “life of the party” would be in our best interest).

We visited pet store after pet store – only to be disappointed in how cats were being pushed at us. It just so happens, 30-minutes before the PetSmart in Jacksonville, North Carolina closed, we walked into a rescued cats adoption day going on.

 My husband held cats, but did not “feel anything.” I happened to be sitting on the bags of dog food with a view of his “cat walk” and realized one little guy had already picked him out (the kitten had picked my husband out). The cat’s tail stood straight up each time my husband passed the cage, as if it were an extra hand waving to say, “Pick me!” Eventually, my husband was ready to go home – cat-less. I explained what I had been seeing as the volunteers were packing up the remaining cats. He decided to hold the kitten one more time. I don’t know if it was the “sweet kitty kisses” or the loud purr, but that little guy is now sharing our home.  The Ultimate Cat Lover confirmed that there is a special feline language – if we are paying attention.

This is a great book for anyone considering adopting a cat or for those who already have a special feline in their lives.
