I have to say this book is a beautiful edition written by Paddy Dillon who has almost 40 books to his name. He has walked in areas around Britain and Europe and also many other parts of the world. When out trekking Paddy uses his palmtop computer to write in about his progress every few steps. Thus, his directions and descriptions are very precise but yet easy to follow. Paddy takes all his own photographs and often prefers to draw his own maps to illustrate routes.

He has appeared on television and is a member of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild.

Just a glimpse at some of the trails of England will take your breath away. From the rugged cliffs of the South West Coast and its beautiful inlets and fishing villages to the hilly and dramatic landscape of the Highlands, Paddy guides the reader (and walker) along these splendid trails using rich descriptions in an easy-to-read way.

The opening chapter sees Paddy ramble through the most pretty places of Devon. We have Porlock Weir and Lynmouth, areas that trek through woods, down into deep gorges with pretty  villages nestling at the bottom and the constant cry of the seagulls to accompany the route. We also have Plymouth included, the city with its interesting artistic features and heritage that should interest many. This city was practically rebuilt after the blitz in the last war. All these picturesque areas of Devon should appeal to most people who have a taste for the seaside and a zest for fresh air and the countryside. The coast line is so attractive too.

The South Downs Way opened in 1972 intended for walkers, cyclists and also horse riders. From Winchester to Eastbourne it takes in the flower rich downs, delightful river valleys and lovely villages. It takes about a week to complete but sounds to be well worth it.

The photography is delightful in this book and so exceptional, it lures you on from page to page as you read and select your next walk.

How about strolling along the side of the river Thames. There are so many walks to choose from. The Thames Barrier to Thames Head takes in Kew Gardens and the tow path is where Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome was inspired.

Kingston upon Thames to Windsor wanders through the meadows at Runnymede where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215 by King John.

The Norfolk Coast path is another option if you are in that area.  On the marshes there bird watching is popular.

Maybe the Yorkshire Wolds attracts you and there are fantastic areas to explore highlighting the Humber Bridge to Filey Brigg.

This informative book goes on to give details of walks around Cleveland Way where the attractive fishing villages dot the coastline which provides many opportunities for walking and riding.

The Pennine Way provides a variety of trails from bleak moorland to Hadrian’s Wall.

In Wales the Pembrokshire Coast line is well covered too.

The book even has walks you can enjoy in the Highlands.

So where ever you go for a holiday in England or just for a short break you can walk ride or cycle and enjoy our beautiful country. Some are easy walks and some are long and challenging. This book is an absolute must, it is inspirational and tells you what is just so special about each walk. Take your pick. The book is so well presented too, a must-have for walkers.
