Crafting & Executing Strategy is a thirteen chapter, 449 page text (Part One), with an additional 439 pages, containing thirty-one cases (Part Two).Endnotes (11 pages) and indexes, classified (24 pages) by organization (14 pages), name (6 pages) and subject follow the cases. Author biographies and a preface precede the chapters. The chapters are organized into 4 parts: introduction and overview (2 chapters), core concepts and analytical tools (2 chapters), crafting a strategy (6 chapters), and executing the strategy (3 chapters).
The authors have done a wonderful job of bringing structure to a topic that is difficult to address in a linear fashion. For example, chapter 3 is structured and addressed through a chapter organized into 7 questions, chapter 4 coverage is designed around 5 questions, and chapter 5 organizes content by five generic competitive strategies.
Penn-Foster recently adopted this text for their 4-year degree program in business. We made extensive use of the cases included and representing nearly 50 percent of the text.At the beginning of each case, teaching notes provide guidance with respect to case mapping to and chapter coverage.Extensive on-line materials, including case updates, are available.
As a sixteenth edition might suggest, this is a superior text on the topic of strategy, it design (crafting) and execution. It has my highest possible recommendation.
