Author: Paul S. Damazo

ISBN: 09793139881

It is a feature of American capitalism that those who benefit from the seemingly endless process of creative destruction feel the need to repay or give back some of the fruits of their success. This does not appear to be an acceptance that there is anything wrong with what they have done or with the system that enables them to benefit, often to such an extravagant extent. Indeed, it is more likely to be the case that beneficiaries will aggregate notions of virtue and luck and conclude that, in some sense, their success demonstrates their good standing on the spiritual level. Whatever the truth of this may be, there is no doubt that it acts as a powerful correcting force in America that does not apply in some of the other countries where capitalism has taken hold, resulting in considerable loss of social cohesiveness, inequality and unrest.

In any case, the author of this book promoting careful attention to paperwork as the means of becoming rich, explains that this is the motive he had for conducting the necessary work to write it. He claims, and there is no reason to doubt him, to have given away many millions of dollars to good causes and only regrets not keeping the money, investing it and then giving away the dividends, which would have been a more efficient use of the resources. This helps to explain why, even though he may have proven methods of making money, he is not spending his declining years enjoying the benefits of those methods – if it were me, then it would be a different story.

So what are the proven ways of becoming a millionaire? Well, they are nothing very startling but rather the careful application of basic methods – put off until tomorrow, pay attention to all assets and claim back lost assets, constantly search for appropriate investment opportunities and, above all, take the whole thing seriously. Readers expecting that some of the methods can be used to produce instant wealth in the same way that Lamaist monks can achieve enlightenment with a single stroke like lightning may be disappointed. These are old-fashioned virtues and rather bourgeois in nature and it is not difficult to imagine serious northern European fathers instructing their stolid sons in these approaches. That just goes to show that they are proven to be successful, perhaps. Quite whether it is possible to become a millionaire and whether that will enable the successful person to live the life of ease and great relationships that Damazo describes remains unclear – it would seem to rely on a number of other variables as well but perhaps the following of the methods will help engender the kind of mindset that enables this kind of happiness.

This book will be an invaluable tool for anyone in America (it is geographically-specific) who is looking for detailed guidelines on how to establish and organize an investment and savings regime that will yield good results over both the short and long terms. It is lucid, rational and comprehensive.
