The New Capitalists is a 288 page, hardbound book, retailing for $29.95 (US).Organized into 9 chapters (4 parts), preceded by acknowledgments and a preface, and concluded with notes, bibliography, index and author biographies, this book addresses the growth or increased breadth of corporate stakeholders and stakeholder groups. This is a paradigm shift, reminiscent of a scene from Wall Street (1987), where Michael Douglas (Gordon Gekko) spoke at a shareholder meeting, addressing this very topic (see page 40 of the book for a different Gekko citation from the film). If you enjoyed this film, as I have, many times, you will find this book to represent an interesting thought-piece.
I would define the target audience for this book as the non-financial expert, non-business person, perhaps an investor or would-be investor, interested it reading about publicly traded corporations, from a broad brush stroke or sociological perspective, but not likely to be personally involved in trading stocks, exchange-traded funds, or mutual funds, preferring, instead, to leave such details to his or her financial planner. While corporate governance issues are addressed, in depth, those with greater financial expertise are likely to have already “tooled up” well beyond the topical areas addressed in this book (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley, Enron, and WorldCom) and would find this a very light – afternoon – read. For this latter group, I would recommend this book.

160 Degrees of Deviation: The Case for the Corporate Cynic by Jerome Alexander
The following review was contributed by
PAUL LAPPEN
Even the best organizations have good intentions when
instituting new plans or policies. Something always
seems to go wrong, because of a type of manager called
the 160 Degree Deviator. These are people with their
own agendas who damage company morale and cause
frustration to rise. The reason that they aren't
called 180 Degree Deviators is that the author gives
the company 20 degrees ""credit"" for having the right
idea....
