Guerilla Marketing in 30 Days

Authors: Jay Conrad Levinson and Al Lautenslager

ISBN: 193253129-7

“The marketing mindset . . . should be focused daily on the following question: How am I building awareness with my prospects and clients through our marketing?”  The source of this quote, Guerrilla Marketing in 30 days, seeks to completely implement that mind-set.  Even if you are looking to casually or slowly build up your business, you will find tips galore in this book.  Because it is so well organized, it can be used as a very handy reference tool for any business owner.

But the purpose of the book is not simply to provide a plethora of random marketing tips; as the title suggests, it is organized as e a 30-day plan, a marketing “blueprint.”  Each chapter covers its topic in excruciating detail, builds on information learned from the previous chapter and ends with a summary and “action steps.”  If used in this way, it seems very likely to guarantee an increase in marketing success.

Chapters cover obvious marketing topics: everything from “Niche Marketing” to “Online Marketing” and “Printed Collateral, Brochures and Sales Sheets” to “Strategic Alliances to “Positioning” is covered; there is nothing new in the exhaustively presented topics.

What makes “Guerilla Marketing” stand out from the crowd, though, is first of all, the interesting  examples used.  Chapter sixteen, “Printed Collateral, Brochures, and Sales Sheets” describes not only the success of contemporary real estate agent Michael Sharp, but also that of 19th century Noah Webster (of Webster’s Dictionary) and 15th century Johann Gutenberg (inventor of the printing press).  Educational and entertaining at the same time?  Yes, “Guerilla Marketing” is all that.

Secondly, the book’s style is very readable.  When I first saw the title, I assumed it would be written in a breathless, overly caffeinated style,  commanding the reader to transform him/herself into a manic type-A personality.   I was wrong.  The tone of the book is very reasonable, balanced and never condescends.  It simply provides a wealth of helpful, intelligently presented  information for the business owner, no matter what type of personality he/she possesses.

A very helpful book for any and all business owners interested in taking their business to the next level of success.
