 Author: Jayel Gibson

ISBN: 978-1-933538-83-9

Publisher: Synergy Books

This book is part of a series - the last of the four Ancient Mirror Tales to have been written by Jayel Gibson. I’d suggest that maybe you should read the other volumes first so that you know who each character is and their history.

This is a tale that has strong female characters - something which I like. It is also a magical type of read, a lot of fantasy stuff going on inside.

The principal character, Cwen, has escaped her homeland that is now completely destroyed. She has gone through a portal into Quondam and later ends up on an island known as D'raekn's island. But this is not a good thing. She is ruthlessly beaten - this is after all where captives go to be held prisoner.  She is later presumed dead and is dumped into the sea. Help is at hand when she is rescued by the Mere folk. This part I found most magical and touching of all, but each reader will find moments in this book that move them more then others, I can guarantee.

After she is rescued, she meets D'raeken, who helps in healing her emotional state and tries to restore her trust which has been broken.

Other events occur which is where Cwen’s special powers that link her to the Dragon spawn, come in useful.

She works beside D’raeken trying to make everything right where things have gone wrong.

The descriptions are stunning. I have many favourites, what will yours be?

“Sovie levered the long flat stone up and sneezed in the sudden fog of old ash that swirled about, dusting her face and arms….there was nothing except the cheerful gurgling of a nearby brook and the distant call of a bird overhead.”

Parts of this tale are also incredibly romantic which I’m sure women will adore. It makes you feel you wish you were in this magical, mystical world of Gods and amazing creatures.

The artwork on the front and back cover, which I must mention, is simply stunning. The only regret I have is there wasn’t any of this art inside. Maybe it would have further enhanced my enjoyment?

Maps are included in the first few pages to help you with the layout of Quondam

Still this is a superb book which you will love if you like this sort of magical storytelling.

Collect all of these series and read the whole saga. Fascinating!

Author: Rudy GurleyISBN: 1427605351If there is one element that sets apart interesting personal narratives from those that are downright boring, it is the narrator’s ability to take on the role analogous to that of an actor in a drama who vividly and effectively shares his or her experiences with the reader. These experiences can be built around one single remarkable event or it may be of a general tale comprising several events in one’s life. What is vital is that the author must clearly...
