As an animal lover, Born Without A Tail attracted my attention. I had every right to be attracted to this book, and if you also love animals, I can guarantee you will adore this gem.

This is the tale of how author Cayr and friend, Dalene, together bought a home and gradually accumulated pets. Dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes have passed through their door, each leaving their paw prints in both Cayr’s and Dalene’s hearts.

The tale of little Mouse, an adorable ginger kitten, nearly had me in tears. The mother cat ignores Mouse and so the kitten decides to sit on the top of the cable box where it can get some warmth. Cayr and her friend decide to take her home with them and give her love and affection.

Delene’s sister, Julie, however thinks the cute little kitten is dying and doesn’t hold out much hope for her survival. Yet with care and love Delene and Cayr appear to have nursed Mouse back to health. Sadness follows. A really bitter sweet tale that will break your heart.

Another chapter that moved me and made me feel so ashamed of our society is that of a little brown and white terrier Cayr found in her driveway after visiting her sick mother.

He was scruffy and thin, clearly underfed, and had stitches on his belly. The vet told them there was no reason for him having stitches there, as it didn’t appear they had been used to help heal a wound. What kind of sick minded individual can do this to an animal? These kinds of people should be shot!

Gradually, with much love and care they nursed the terrier, named Falkor, back to health, though as a timid little dog, it sometimes proved hard.

The love Cayr and her friend, Dalene, have for these animals is clearly portrayed in this moving yet uplifting book. They are animal lovers with big hearts for not only domestic animals but for the waifs and strays too.

There are so many animal tales inside this book for you to read - some have really sad endings though so keep a box of tissues close to hand.

The “tails” of the cats that liked to be sung to warmed me through. Cats are animals with feelings just as you or me. They love to be nurtured and cared for but have their own catty way of doing things. They’ll only let you stroke them for a moment or two and then the claws will be out!

I read this from page to page - I couldn’t put this one down. I thought it was an absolutely brilliant book, especially as I myself share the same passions as the author and her “life mate” have for animals.

This is a tale that will appeal to animal lovers and perhaps children too…

BRILLIANT!

The story’s got a natural science bent, but perhaps the real value of the story is that everything is perfect, just as it is. While Skink has breakfast, she almost becomes breakfast
