Poor Minerva’s having a bad day. Nobody notices her no matter what she does—and she does a lot of noticeable things! She overslept and nobody noticed. At breakfast, nobody knows she’s there. From there, her mood grows worse.

No matter how bad she feels and no matter what bad thing she does, nobody seems to notice, or care, about Minerva. Finally, Minerva can take no more of it and she finds a place to hide and cry.

What Minerva doesn’t realize is that dad does notice Minerva. With a bit of love and understanding, dad helps Minerva feel loved and noticed.

Wednesday Kirwan’s simple story and illustrations show a keen insight into the preschool psyche. Minerva is spunky and incorrigible, but infinitely more loved than she realizes. Kirwan cleverly tells a simple story, without waste or airs. Similarly, her illustrations add depth to Minerva’s character without intruding. Everything works together to tell a story children and parents are both going to love and treasure.

There’s a Minerva in all of us. Kirwan’s Minerva will help children cope with imaginary feelings of isolation without preaching.
