Gloria Clark, a retired bookkeeper from Buffalo New York, has a deep love for writing. Her first book, When Half of Your Heart Dies, was published in 2004.

The inspiration behind The Little Candy Breathing Dragons comes from her two young granddaughters.  The Little Candy Breathing Dragons is dedicated to her late son Darian L. Clark (1972-2000).

This beautifully illustrated children’s book tells the story of two candy-breathing dragon sisters named Nay-Nay and Maj. They decide to go on an adventure together where they end up helping animals in need - from Tootie Slim the puppy dog with no feet to an old kitty cat named Mrs. Pookie who can not see.

The dragon sisters, who are so sweet, give their help to whomever they find in need along their journey. Eventually they end up roaming around lost outside their home land of Buffalo where almost everything is covered in snow and ice. Help is at hand for the harmless little dragons and eventually all turns out to be fine in the end.

The story is very attractive - both to children and adults. The author has woven the theme of kindness throughout this exceptional book. There are so many things in this story that parents would be delighted for their children to read and enjoy. For example Gloria Clark has written most of the sentences in rhyme so it is fun to read to your child and also helps your child learn the sounds of words more easily. As well as this, it does help you get into a nice rhythm.

I liked the way in which Clark used animals to represent the disabled. It allows children to see that just because someone is disadvantaged in a physical way it doesn’t mean they are any different and should be respected the same as you or me.

Dragon’s with a breath that smells like candy should appeal to children a lot, we all like sweets after all don’t we?

The illustrations stood out to me a lot -the characters have got their own unique expressions. Also the pictures are bright and cheerful, I loved the colourful candy too.

Clark has certainly got a good way of story telling and getting across the correct messages to young children who are easily influenced in other ways.

The dragons aren’t looking scary as some books depict them and the bear (lovely Munchkin who is friendly and lovable) will be a favourite with many I have no doubt.

This is a fantastic and also educational book for children from the age of nine to twelve. The front cover is attractive and eye-catching, just what you’d want with a book of this type.

A wonderful story for parents and their children.  Let’s hope Clark has more stories like this up her sleeve!
