“And they lived happily ever after…” begins the story.

Friend Bear just can’t fall asleep. Luckily, Bedtime Bear is patient. Over the pages of this familiarly illustrated board book, Bedtime Bear goes through the routine every parent knows: reading a story, getting that last drink of water, pulling the covers up, gently refusing to read just one more story, and so on.

It’s not until Friend Bear complains about that dark that Bedtime Bear realizes the real problem. Sometimes the dark is a little scary. Your child will enjoy turning on the comforting night light for Friend Bear.

The rhyming text flows well and is never forced. The sweet story rolls quietly along while setting a bedtime routine that might last for months—whatever works. Saxton Moore’s illustrations should be familiar to you and your child—these are adorable and sweet, just what we’ve come to expect. Familiarity is good at bedtime.

This book, for two and up, comes with its own little night light that your child can turn on. It goes out automatically after five minutes. The book also comes with a CD of lullabies.

Care Bear Lullaby is a keeper.
