If you’ve never really thought of yourself as a dog lover, you will definitely want to read this gem of a book by Louise Fritz.  Living With Big Dogs just might change your perception of how you truly feel about animals.  This delightful romp through every conceivable situation imaginable will turn doubt to love and enthusiasm for one of God’s most delightful creatures—man’s best friend—the dog.

Louise and her husband, Bill, have decided to enlarge their family by acquiring a new pet—a Great Dane, no less.  Enter Dudley.  Dudley is all a person who loves ‘big dogs’ could ask for (and much more!).  He grows to be a one-hundred-seventy-plus pound bundle of joy in a very short time—so very much to love!

Now Dudley has made himself at home, but something seems to be missing.  Now there is Mom, Dad, and Dudley makes three—an uneven number by any count.  So Louise and Bill, deciding Dudley needs a playmate, begin their search for the perfect sibling for their ‘little?’ darling.   As you read this wonderful tale of ‘haps’ and mishaps’, you will soon learn that Great Danes are just that—GREAT BIG.  Hence, a playmate for a large dog should inevitably be another large dog—we do want a playmate, not a snack.

Louise finds the perfect companion for Dudley in the form of one young, but intensely energetic Sheep Dog and so, addition number two to the family clan becomes—Yoshi.

Yoshi becomes the fun-loving huge ball of fur that almost (but not quite) looks the same from both ends.  He will make you want to hold him and cuddle him and love him like the teddy bear he almost is.

As the months go by and their ‘babies’ grow to great heights of long legs, tails, and tongues, the urge for motherhood again becomes too much for Louise and she begins to yearn for the feel of a ‘baby fur bundle’ in her arms once more.   Casey is adopted.  Saved from the dreadful life of a puppy mill, Casey is an underfed and under loved sad-eyed little Golden Lab.  Eyes that could melt the coldest heart; he had found a home.

Now that you’ve met the family, you will want to enjoy the heartwarming treats of each new episode as they race, romp, tear, and laugh their way through each new adventure.

A read you won’t want to miss—LIVING WITH BIG DOGS—is a lively wonderful book.  Written to warm the heart with love, hugs, and ‘big dog’ kisses.  Louise Fritz has done an outstanding job with this above average narrative of life with man’s best friend ‘large size’.
