A treat for the eyes as well as an inspiration for the mind, Cath Kidston’s In Print is chock-full of ideas that incorporate a variety of vintage fabrics into a myriad of projects.

Readily available from secondhand stores, yard and garage sales, as well as online auctions such as EBay – you may even find these great prints among your own linens.

Vintage print fabrics, such as the memorable Laura Ashley prints, have the ability to transport us to a multitude of eras in our lives. When we think of the 1950’s was there a housewife who did not own a vast array of kitchen aprons for entertaining? From the simple patch pocket with rickrack trim to the pinafore apron, down to the sexy and often frilly and elegantly embellished waist tie apron, no chic hostess was without one.

Surprisingly enough, many vintage aprons and tablecloths have survived time with little wear and tear. Even those that are stained or time worn can still be salvaged into remnants for projects ranging from curtains, pillow cases and seat cushions, lampshades, cloth handbags, lining for dresser drawers and even wrapping paper. Something as simple as a lovely floral piece of vintage fabric can be simply presented in a chalky pale pastel frame.

The vintage fabrics covered in this book range from big florals and chintzes to cottage garden and flower garden combinations and the ever popular cabbage rose print fabrics. Utilitarian fabrics such as oil cloth and terry cloth are also very practical and can be revamped for a multitude of uses both inside and out.

The back of the book contains lots of tips for where to shop, sewing tips and techniques and project instructions to complete this colorful and enchanting book.

It is never too soon to start scouting those local thrift shops and yard sales for vintage pillow cases and bed lines, old dresses and shirts – the choices are virtually endless. With Cath Kidston’s In Print – you will never be at a loss for a wonderful yet simple project. Use those great old print fabrics to transform your rooms into a delightful floral paradise!
