On first glance of James Green’s book, you would think it would be a somewhat depressing book of regrets with all the stories of regrets and missed chances. Instead, I found it to be an extremely uplifting collection of stories. The stories are arranged by such topics as dreams and awakenings; the one that got away; careers; our friends and family; relationships, love and marriage; money and finance; looking back; kindness; perspectives; time; and a list of questions for you to ask those you know and love to find out their own regrets.
I doubt that there is anyone who doesn’t have some regret in his or her life. A level of curiosity over where you might be now if you had asked out your high school crush rather than convince yourself that they would have just laughed in your face, if you had turned left when you turned right, said yes when in reality you said no.
After reading these some odd 100 stories where various people from all different levels of status and life experiences let you glimpse those moments in their lives, I found I started things about my own personal what ifs. What if I had taken that job offer that came two weeks after the first one rather than out of loyalty to the initial employer who had no qualms doing away with my job a month later?
In the middle of this life ponderings, you also get an equal reassurance that there will always be other chances for you to say yes, turn left, and just take a chance and experience all life has to offer. In all of these stories Green keeps reminding us that it’s only too late to make a different choice when we are dead. As with each story impresses on us, experience what you have always wanted to in your life that the little voice in the back of you head has been telling you otherwise. This is a great motivational book without being one of those hit you over the head motivational books. It gives you just enough encouragement to take that leap of faith and silence that little voice for the sake of making that memory that you have always wanted to have. The only thing you have to loose is the regret of not making the memory.
