Linc Menner is a house-husband - or to put it as the book says a “man of the house”. He is also father to daughter Violet who is entering puberty at an alarming rate.

While wife, Jo, is at work Linc occupies himself with housework but when the family move house to be by the beaches of Naples, Florida, Linc realizes he’s forgotten what it feels like to be muscular and manly.

His skills are cooking, cleaning, deciding what colour to paint the bedroom walls and at the moment, being daughter Violet’s agony aunt, especially when it comes to boys. He has also found himself in a rather awkward position - strolling round the lingerie departments at shops to help Violet choose her bras but feels so pervvy standing there.

When the family’s new house is turned upside down with maintenance work, Linc observes what real men are like - even down to their way of greeting each other - and decides its time to hit the gym to become macho again and turn his flab into muscle and a six-pack.

Yet it seems this is the least of his problems when he falls out with Violet over a fight at school. The question is: since when did being a house-husband become so hard?

And just when he wants to take a relaxing bath he discovers the tub has been ripped out leaving a thriving nest of possums in the foundation!

I loved every moment of this thoroughly enjoyable book. Hudler is indeed a marvellous writer of women’s fiction - better then some women it can be argued - and this offering is irresistible and laugh-out-loud funny. It is packed with those comical moments that have you in stitches and offers us women some light on the subject of men and their feelings.

It features some emotional stuff from the rest of the family including young Violet, which is hard for a man to write, but Hudler pulls it off effortlessly.

Also included is “Linc Menner’s Handy Hints” which are funny but also could also be useful in getting out of doing the chores if you’re a man. For instance find out Linc’s top tip for avoiding making the beds and why he tells his daughter and wife to use the gym showers to wash their hair instead of the bathroom at home.

Enjoyed this so much I might even read it again!

An entertaining novel that I simply couldn’t put down…a big thumbs up from me.
