The Ribble Way, which runs the entire length of the Ribble valley, is perhaps one of England’s most wondrous treks. It boasts magnificent scenery and also some of history’s finest buildings including St Walburghe’s Church located in the city of Preston.

Many walkers have now wandered over this route so it is no surprise that authors Dennis and Jan Kelsall have decided to make a dedicated guide to The Ribble Way. 

Here fans of England’s walkways can rest safe in the knowledge that with the use of this guide, they can enjoy this walk to its full potential.

The authors start off mentioning the history of the River Ribble, which plays a very important element of this route.

The things you can learn from reading this introduction ensure a piece of mind when it comes to walking the Ribble Way. Everything else that comes in later will make sense and you can appreciate much more. 

The authors recommend you begin this route at Longton, which leads to Penwortham Bridge through magnificent scenery and historical sites, detailed inside.

When you eventually reach the area of Penworthham it is worth checking out Tun Brook Wood. This splendid little corner is stunningly beautiful woodland during the spring and summer months boasting oak, ash, hazel, elder and holly trees and also snowdrops early in the year.

Of course all the other walks have equally splendid views, places and much history to “see”.

Chapter four - Brungerley Bridge to Gisburn Bridge -is a lovely but rather tiring route with 9.3 miles to cover and Pendle Hill to confront towards the middle of this trek.

However, as demonstrated in the snapshot, when you scale Pendle Hill’s heights the views can be greatly rewarding from the peak.

After finishing this guide I felt it had been worth the time looking through it. It offers the walker everything he or she could ask for - reliable information, maps and distance accuracy among the few to be found inside.  

Chapters are laid out easily for walkers to read and the clear pictures help to bring this guide to life.
