I’ve been seeing all these polymer clay beads and books and I’ve wanted to try it out myself, but I’ve been at a total loss as to where to start.
Sterling Publishing has this great book called Polymer Clay For the First Time that is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s a short book that’s packed with information that you really only can get from experience, such as the pros and cons of each of the various brands and style of clay.
I also liked the tip of covering you clay with disposable pans gator clipped together and then take it outside to open it to keep the house from smelling like plastic. The author is the president of the San Diego Polymer Clay Guild who teaches and lectures on the joy of this art form. Her experience as a teacher is readily apparent through the careful attention to detail with just enough information to keep it from being too overwhelming.
The photos are at that point in the steps where you could possibly need just a bit more clarification to keep you headed in the right direction.
For someone who’s always wanted to try the hobby of Polymer Clay bead and design, this is defiantly a great book to pick up to help you get started. Between the tips of experience and the non-intimidating directions, this book makes me excited about breaking open my first package of polymer clay to see where this foundation of understanding married with my imagination will take me.
