Evil Be Gone will capture you and glue you to your seat starting with page one. It’s a fast-paced, page turner with enough surprises, twists and turns to cause anxiety. This novel has all the ingredients for a best seller. And I hope the author writes more. I especially enjoyed the surprise ending.
Estko’s main character, John aka Lilly, is easily the man next door. He’s a man of quality and integrity. An everyday guy -- now, that is. Lilly has a history, a past that he had long ago shelved. For over a decade he has had another life. That life was his wife, Susan, and their son. He no longer killed for his country. No more did he follow orders. His family was everything to him. Now, the only way to him was through that family. But when people are desperate, not even a family is safe.
Retired General Pritchett had his eye on the presidency for his son. It was his aspiration and his son would have it -- no matter the cost. Nothing would stand in his way. He wanted his son in the White House -- even if it meant murder.
Pritchett’s daughter-in-law has plans of her own. She has had enough of her husband’s infidelities and plans to make them public -- with divorce. It could not come at a worse time. However, if the wife of a presidential candidate were killed, the voting population would be ever so sympathetic.
Lilly is forced out of retirement with the kidnapping of his son. His assignment -- murder. Will he be able to kill an innocent human being? Will his psychological training kick in? That same defense that had always been there when he took a life? Would it be there when he needed it to kill this time?
Lilly only killed to get rid of evil. Audra Pritchett, wife of Senator Bill Prtichett, wasn’t evil. Would Lilly be able to kill her?
The plan was established -- kidnap Audra and kill Audra. She was the only obstacle in Pritchett’s way.
Leo Riley was the cleanup man. He would have his back broken. Mrs. Giddens was the housekeeper-slash-agent. She would end up dead. The other two agents were dead, too. It appeared that Giddens has attempted to carry out Lilly’s assignment. The agents got in her way. Leo got in Lilly’s way.
Someone was betraying Lilly. Who was it and why? Lilly had done what the General required. Why wasn’t he keeping his end of the bargain? On the ledge, the General begs for Lilly to pull him to safety. “Evil be gone!”
