Bylines: 2005 Writer's Desk Calendar By, For and About Writers by Edited by Linda Hagen Miller
The following review was submitted by:
TAMI BRADY
Bylines is a desk calendar created especially for writer's, those writing professionally and those dreaming of becoming a writer.
As with other desk calendars, this spiral bound book divides the years into week-long segments with space for writing appointments
and notes for each particular day.
Unlike other desk calendars, bylines has several unique features
all dedicated to aiding professional and hopeful writers. For
inspiration, the birthdays of various writers and other notable
people are included with each day of the year. Furthermore, sections with information for writers on various topics are
located at the back of this book.
The most unique portion of this book, however, is that each week
features a different writer. These writers range from famous
notable writers who make a full time living writing to less
famous writers who write for life but pay their bills by working
elsewhere. Each author presents a blurb about his or her writing.
Some of these writers recall how they became writers or when they
received their call to writing. Others authors share trials and
tribulations experienced along their way to achieving their individual
writing goals. The tone of these pieces range from humorous to
inspiring.
Writing is often a very isolating career filled with ample
rejection letters and very little peer support. In some small
way, Bylines contributes to the well being and optimism of
writers by presenting inspiring and humorous stories that push
the writer to continue traversing the difficult journey towards
his or her writing goals. In this way, Bylines is the perfect way
to keep organized while getting a little peer support no matter
what the reader's writing goals.
