Richard Starr had it all. He was a well-respected police officer and Ruth Freeman, the love of his life, stood at his side.
One day and some horrible luck would change all that. An armed suspect ran into an underground tunnel near the Mackenzie College. Richard ran after the suspect, fired his gun, and shot the suspect. Unfortunately, a boy was also shot in the heated gunfire.
From that moment on, Richard's life changed. He lost his job. He started drinking too much. Eventually, Richard lost his home and Ruth. Moreover, Richard starting seeing strange things. He was sure he saw that missing college professor being pulled into the Mackenzie College tunnel by a giant crayfish.
Claws is an intelligent yet imaginative thriller. Mystery, action, and irony thread together seamlessly throughout the entire story. The characters are strong, well developed, and likable. Furthermore, many of these characters' traits and actions challenge socially accepted stereotypes in a rational and creative way.
