“So he’s got a straw.

It’s still not polite to say

‘You suck’ to your friend” (p. 69)

Faith R. Foyil is a woman of many talents. She can raise a family of turtles. She can write a mean humor essay. She can take care of sick children, make it to a play date, and start up an emergency generator all at the same time. And while she’s at it, why not write a few haiku?

101 HAIKU FOR MOMS is a collection of Foyil’s haiku which is amazingly often both introspective and hilarious. Foyil’s ability to boil down frustrations and elations of parenthood into just a few well-balanced syllables makes 101 HAIKU FOR MOMS such a pleasing read.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

“Booger. Ha! Barf. Buurrrp.

Weeeee. I’m not making this up!

Early Dave Barry” (p. 67)

“Caution up ahead!

There – lurking in the still of night:

Lego on tile floor” (p. 37)

101 HAIKU FOR MOMS is a book all moms must have for a glance, quick pick-me-up, or end of the day reflection. In true hilarious Foyil style, this book will be a beloved book on all moms’ (new, old, or in-between) bookshelves.
