Do you know someone who is a game widow? Perhaps you are one yourself? Here author Wendy Kays tries to help you understand what it means to be a game widow and how to build a bridge of communication that you may have lost with your loved one if they have a gaming addiction. 

I was instantly attracted to this book because I am what you’d call a compulsive gamer. Having been playing video games for well over twelve years, everything about this book was intriguing to me. What does Kays think about gaming? What are her feelings on the way this virtual world has taken over?

She writes about how shortly after marrying her husband, he changed. No more was he the love of her life but instead a “bad roommate”.

From what I understand gaming consumed him, gone were the days of communication and now he’d sit for hours in front of his computer monitor and retire to bed at ridiculous times. Kays felt he was ignoring her and the way they were to each other no longer felt  special. 

She even had to take a picture of the back of his head to put in a frame on her desk at work because there were not enough minutes in the day where she’d get his time.

It seems this was one man with an obsessive gaming addiction.

Over the following pages, Kays explains that gamers don’t do this necessarily to get back at you…read on to find out why.

There is so much more to read about gaming that I just can’t possibly cover it all. Virtual worlds, pets and homes all follow. 

Then of course we move on to more serious matters. Like how video-games affect us. I read the section on Death and have very strong opinions. A gamer in South Korea died from playing for fifty hours straight at an internet café. They say it was the game that killed this person - rubbish. The game did not do anything, this person died from exhaustion and dehydration-induced cardiac arrest. It was technically their own fault.

Games are different from other addictive habits that CAN kill. Smoking can kill - it blackens your lungs, drugs can kill - they affect how your body works and alcohol can kill - gradually giving you liver disease. Games simply do not kill you regardless of what you might read in the press.

It seems to me that Kays believes this side of the argument but do you?  

Parents claim games destroy their children, they bring out their worst personalities and they destroy their education. Again I have to say this is rubbish. I played games as a young child and I am sure they never altered me.

More arguments follow- is it possible that games can cause people to commit violent acts? If so, should they be banned? Again I totally disagree. It is not the games that made that individual kill - that person was perhaps on medication and maybe they had a fragile sense of mind? Were they mentally ill? All these points of view should be examined closely by authorities before they brandish games unsuitable. 

This is a book that explains to us all there is to know about the virtual world of gaming. Here you learn what attracts people to spend their money on games, whether these games are addictive or deadly and also all the up-to-date information on the games world.

I couldn’t put this down, intriguing, interesting and hugely insightful.
