For Whom the Pottery Breaks…
Molly Applebee is the sparkling and masterfully crafted heroine at the center of “A Killer Collection.” Although an atypical heroine, Molly is full of the life and character that are seldom seen in books today. Set in the rustic beauty of North Carolina, “A Killer Collection” easily brings even the least knowledgeable person right into the heart of Southern pottery, the people who create it, and the people who would kill for it.
Molly is covering a kiln opening, a rare time when pottery collectors compete with each other for the best new pieces available from a potter. Already a crazy experience, Molly is shocked when one of the patron’s, the obnoxious George Bradley-Staunton, suddenly falls over dead. His untimely death is ruled and accident and the case is closed. It is only when one of Staunton’s rivals ends up missing, along with some very important pieces of pottery that Molly suspects something more could be to the story.
A journalist by trade, Molly soon finds herself searching for the answers to Bradley-Staunton’s death and what happened the missing kiln of Jack Graham, one of the master’s of the trade.
“A Killer Collection” is a fantastic story that is brought even more to life by an unlikely voice-that of a piece of clay from Graham’s missing kiln. Fashioned into a toy animal for a child, this piece of clay tells the story with just as much authenticity, vulnerability, and hope that you would expect from any child. This unlikely voice sets “A Killer Collection” apart in the realm of mystery writing.
