The Western world is obsessed with dieting. We are told we need to slim down to adhere to an often unrealistic body image - but diets often don’t work. In fact they contribute to various eating disorders: anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, you name it. Dr Dorie McCubbrey´s approach of “Intuitive Self-Care” offers a refreshing alternative which doesn’t involve either calorie counting or excluding food groups or grueling exercise regimes. Instead she wants you to rediscover who you are, your soul, your real needs and to love yourself.
Dr Dorie has first hand knowledge of the subject. Her own diet nightmare started at the age of 10 when she read a book about a girl who was teased because she was fat. For the next 15 years Dorie was on different diets, suffering from every eating disorder possible which resulted in dramatic weight fluctuations. Finally she found help with a therapist, successfully managed to break the endless cycle of dieting and let go of the diet-mentality.
Her book consists of three parts andtells the reader in detail about her own quest for a healthy, diet-free life. Readers might find themselves in the different stages she describes. She devotes a whole chapter to the games that dieters play like trying fad diets, throwing up after eating andskipping meals and she explains why these games don’t work. She then describes how she rediscovered her own soul or intuition.
In the second part for the book Dorie explains what she means by intuitive Self-Care. At the core lies her observation that eating disorders “reflect an attachment to the world and detachment from our intuitive guidance. When we reconnect with our intuitive guidance, weight problems solve themselves.”
Intuition is the key to successfully losing weight and according to Dorie the secret of naturally slim people. People with no weight problems know intuitively when, whatand how much to eat. They also know how much exercise they need.
The key is to try to “ACT AS If” you don’t have weight problems and get in touch with your intuition and get in tune with your body’s needs.Dorie advises to get rid of your scales and instead be conscious of what you are eating, by asking yourself if you are really hungry or if you are eating for other reasons such as stress, boredom or unhappiness. Her descriptions of the four different archetypal weight problems provide case studies with which readers might identify themselves.
The third part of her book gets practical and she gives the reader30 “recipes”, analytical exercises which aim to help the reader to reconnect with his/her intuition. These take from 2 to 45 minutes, often involve the use of pen, paper and magazines and are organized into the categories health, confidence, balance, peace and happiness. For example “I am soulful as I eat” is an exercise which prompts the reader to write down after every meal how he/she experienced the meal. How does it taste, was it satisfying or even energizing?
Dorie often uses helpful questions to guide the reader through the process of changing his/her dieting habits. Her warm and sympathetic style makes “How much does your soul weigh?” easy to read without feeling patronized.
It is a very helpful book for people willing to break their cycle of endless unsuccessful diets.

Click Here To Purchase F.A.T. How to Survive Your Diet and Conquer Your food Issues Forever
Author: Linda MoranISBN: 0-9749396-0-9Publisher: Betterway PressWhat I most loved about Linda Moran’s book – which aims to help those afflicted by the ills of dieting to become normal eaters – is that she doesn’t emphasise exercise as the route to shedding pounds. What a relief! As she claims in the book, she spent one year immobile and still lost weight – the point is that if we’re truly in tune to eating only what our body needs, which is what this book is about, it will adjust our...
