Today, Jessica Roberts one of Bookpleasures.com's reviewers is pleased to have as our guest, Daniel Martin author of Who Lied and Said We Left the Garden of Eden.

Jessica:

Hello Daniel. How are you today? Once again a big thank you for participating in this interview.

Daniel:

I’m doing great Jessica, and thank you for your interest in interviewing me.

Jessica:

What do you think made you begin experimenting with drugs? Was it a case of peer pressure? Why did you want to kick the habit?

Daniel:

Some of the strange dreams and visions I had as a young boy gave me the impression at a young age that I had to experience much suffering in my life in order for me to eventually make some kind of difference in the lives of others. Peer pressure had less to do with why I started doing drugs, and wanting to escape from life as I knew it had more to do with why I used drugs. Using drugs and being homeless created intense amounts of suffering for me. Eventually, I came to a point of surrender in my life, to where I no longer wanted to do things my way. Instead, I became teachable, and willing to learn from people who treated themselves and other people better. Attending Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings is where I found these people that helped me to grow up and quit drinking and drugging.

Jessica:

Was anyone an influence on you?

Daniel:

Yes Jessica, many people have influenced me from the police that arrested me to the other homeless junkies that I no longer wanted to be like. I learned that I no longer could spend my time being influenced by people that were getting high and doing destructive things. I have developed more quality relationships with clean and sober people. I now have friends that are doctors, lawyers, teachers, and business owners like me that attend twelve-step meetings. It’s amazing how many different types of people can get together, all because we have one thing in common in wanting a better way of life without drugs and alcohol.

Jessica:

Did you ever consider the harm the drugs were doing to not only you but also family and friends?

Daniel:

One of the biggest things that bothered me about doing drugs was how I made my family and friends worry. This is one of the reasons I chose to be homeless and disappear so many times in my life. I didn’t want them to see how bad off I got. I realize now that even this didn’t protect them from worrying about me, of which I’ll always be truly sorry about. I can’t make up for all the harm I’ve done to others, so I try to live my life as sort of a living amends to others.

Jessica:

What gave you the inspiration to write Who Lied and Said We Left the Garden of Eden?

Daniel:

I’ve learned to be a much happier, more confident and grateful individual, and wanted to share what has helped me to get to where I’m at in life to help those who have been through some of the same tough times as I have. I was also hoping to convince people of how precious this planet is and how lucky we are to be alive in this beautiful world. I wanted to attempt to convince people to treat one another better, along with caring for our Mother Earth better.

Jessica:

Would you ever consider writing another book, perhaps maybe a fictional one?

Daniel:

Absolutely Jessica and funny you should ask. I’ve been considering writing a fictional book with a scenario where all the creative and constructive secret societies on the planet started working together in order to create a literal heaven on earth. A place where wars only existed in our children’s history books and instead of destroying our rain-forests…. planting trees, clean air, and getting rid of concrete was of more importance.

Jessica:

Who, say in the celebrity world, do you think to be good influences on young people today?

Daniel:

I admire Charlie Watts the drummer for the Rolling Stones for being married to the same woman for over thirty years. I also admire Paul Newman, who died recently, for living his life to the fullest, enjoying his life racing cars and such while helping many charities out with his different endeavors. I admired Princess Dianna for the same reasons. Sadly, it seems that many people with wealth and celebrity status seem to be interested in no one but themselves, unfortunately. Although, this doesn’t count for everyone, I’m sure.

Jessica:

Thank you so much for participating in this interview. It has been interesting and a real pleasure!

Daniel:

Thank you Jessica for interviewing me, I really enjoyed it, and I wish you and all your readers all the best.

The following review was contributed by: Norm Goldman Editor of Bookpleasures Although, I don’t recommend abducting an editor and keeping him captive for several weeks, that is just what novelist Daniel Hayes’ principal character, Evan Ulmer, accomplishes when he imprisons in his basement editor Robert Partnow who had previously rejected his manuscript. Tearjerker revolves around three characters, Ulmer, Partnow and Ulmer’s platonic girlfriend, Promise Buckley. The dialogue among...
