Today, Sue Vogan one of Bookpleasures.com’s reviewers is pleased to have as our guest, Carole Blake author of Help! My Face Has Fallen And It Can’t Get up!

Speaking with Carole Blake was one of the most enjoyable conversations I have ever had with a stranger. She was not only funny, but also warm and truly excited about her new book, Help! My Face Has Fallen And It Can’t Get up! And from the picture on her book cover, she’s as beautiful outside as inside.

Sue:

Why did you write your new book?

Carole:

I had written a lot of articles in various local newspapers…and everyone used to say, “You should write a book! You’re funny!” And so…I did. I thought about sending “query” letters to the big publishing houses…but I decided I was too old to wait for their replies…or their rejections…so I self-published.

Sue:

While most of us over 50 are worrying about turkey necks and flabby arms, you seem to look at life differently – is this something we can learn?

Carole:

Absolutely not. I still worry about turkey necks and flabby arms, but I can also laugh about them too!

Sue:

You talk about your mother a great deal in your book – what kind of mother was she and did she have your great sense of humor?

Carole:

She was a devoted and lovely mother. I think she was very proud of me and thought of me as her best friend…as well as her daughter. But I think I got my sense of humor from my Dad. He was a funny guy.

Sue:

You have been in pictures – what was it like to meet those movie stars?

Carole:

Well, I haven’t ever been IN pictures…but I certainly was involved in the production of a couple of films. Meeting Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton was unbelievably exciting. Unfortunately, I must have appeared like a real jerk to them…cause all my wonderful words seemed to have left me, and I think I was just babbling away. But I do have pictures to prove that I actually met them! I wonder if they remember me? Hmmm…

Sue:

You have an ex-husband, children, and grandchildren. Do you still have a what’s-his-name?

Carole:

I definitely still do have a what’s-his-name…and his name is Larry. He’s extremely wonderful and supportive…and I love him a lot.

Sue:

What keeps you busy these days?

Carole:

I still have my business: writing poems and songs for parties (Sweet 16s, Bar Mitzvahs, weddings). One time I was actually hired to write the words for a wedding proposal! And I think she said “yes”! I’m a very avid tennis player, and I play for 2 different teams…and it’s extremely competitive. Sometimes too much! And I love to cook and try new recipes, although Larry (what’s-his-name) seems to prefer dining out a lot. (I wonder if that means anything?)

Sue:

Have you ever thought of doing stand-up comedy?

Carole:

NEVER! I’d be too nervous! (Unless maybe I had some wine first…nah…still not for me!)

Sue:

After having been an executive producer, do you see movies in the same way as before that title? And, what movies interest you the most?

Carole:

Actually, I LOVE movies. But we never go to the movies at night…we always go during the day because I don’t ever want to be tired when I watch a movie. I always stay for the credits (which most people don’t do) because I’m interested in who did what. I love Woody Allen films and other comedies. I enjoy dramatic films, but I’m not really into science fiction, horror, or action films. Hey…that’s just me!

Sue:

Where can people buy your book?

Carole:

Sue:

Any take-home message for readers of your book?

Carole:

Yes. And here it is: “Wow, that Carole Blake is SOME writer!! Let’s tell everyone we know to buy her book on Amazon.” No, seriously, I just hope that people can identify with some of the things I’ve written about…and that it made them smile.

Sue:

Not only did her book make me smile, I was giggling, chuckling, and laughing out loud. I will never be in a CVS without now thinking of Blake or sit in a restaurant without looking up! It’s one of those books that will forever invade your thoughts – especially when you’re least enjoying one of life’s little moments.
