L. Frank James was born into a Christian home in California where belief in God was very much alive. Frank was brought up within the church community and the gospel of Jesus Christ was a hugely important factor during his influential years. His family were steeped in religion and would rarely miss a Sunday worship service. Frank was always very involved in Sunday school and other biblical activities.
He had a keen interest in drama and began to study this in high school. Frank’s interest in theatre and drama continued throughout college as he graduated from California State University in Los Angeles with a B.A in Theatre Arts.
He was involved with many aspects of theatre, both community and professional. With these many achievements Frank went on to win numerous awards including the Robert Reed Award, the Birdsal Award and the Elly Award. His first novel, An Opened Grave, received rave reviews and was rightfully awarded first place of the Best Books of 2006 for religious fiction by USA Book News.
Ironically while his recent book, Mr Inside, was still being printed, L. Frank James died in an auto accident while on his way to church. He will be missed deeply by his wife Charlotte and all his family, including his sixteen-year-old twin daughters.
The beginning of this book was absolutely engrossing, two young brothers playing hide and seek. Instantly the surroundings are vivid in your mind’s eye and so is the close bond between the brothers.
We also meet witchdoctors who believe that their natural medicine is better then the medicine made available by doctors. However even though these witchdoctors seem friendly enough - sometime later Gustov Miller and his younger brother Andy are gripped by terror and deep depression as they witness the ruthless killings of their parents by the native witchdoctors. Years later Gustov, now a Doctor and an internationally renown scholar who developed a keen eye for solving mysteries and has his very own company, Lost & Found. His assistant is the lovely Miss Beatrix Peeters who is a Christian and also working for Gustov is James Morrison who acts as his “Mr Outside”. James often finds himself deeply embroiled in dangerous plots as he searches for stolen artefacts.
Everyone must pull together to solve a mystery that could threaten their lives or worse…
This is an enjoyable detective story that should appeal to fans of Sherlock Homes who also have a taste for religious thrillers too.A great book with a good beginning, likable characters and interesting plot throughout. It is just a shame that Frank cannot be with us now to write more of these entertaining mysteries with his unique style.
