The Science of Leadership

Authors: Victoria DePaul and Thomas Michael Powell

ISBN: 978-0-9794508-0-8

After having worked in Corporate America for twenty-four years and with broad experience in Human Resource Management, Victoria DePaul is able to draw on her career in tackling the problems of dysfunctional business organizations. De Paul has teamed up with Thomas Michael Powell, who was for twenty years CEO of a nationwide and executive leadership, labor force and personal development company, to put together The Science of Leadership.

Beginning with the opening sentences, “in this age of road-rage, and not desk-rage, if you are employed, your safety is at risk,” DePaul and Powell set out to demonstrate how to implement strategies and processes that will be a powerful agent of Positive Energy for your organization and your family. And as they state in their introduction, when you have completed the reading of their book, “you will discover the true power in life comes from understanding how life works and how you (and others) can create life as you desire.”

The book’s opening chapter, Human Quantum Energy, lays out in detail the concepts of energy, both physical and non-physical or Quantum Energy. As the authors inform us, the Quantum Energy is energy that cannot be produced by physical means or measured by scientific instruments and these include consciousness, mental energy, emotional energy, decision, persistence, commitment, loyalty, all types of thought, ideas, knowledge, intelligence, creativity, human communications and relationships and many more. In fact, these are far more powerful than the physical energies as our behavior is determined by them.

It is vital that we understand that the most important energies of all are the Human Quantum Energies within the individual:  mind, feelings and your interaction with others. It is these Energies that are instrumental in controlling and affecting individuals, families, groups and organizations.

From here the authors extensively detail how to acquire the power to handle the Quantum Energies of your life as well as your organizations, families and groups. They also expose how this Knowledge, and therefore Power, will enable you to recognize Negative Energy that is non-productive in yourself and in your organization.

We learn about the laws that govern polarity for as pointed out it is impossible to full understand and control energy without knowing these laws. An entire chapter is devoted to explaining what negative energy is and why it is undesirable. In the chapter dealing with How Life Really Works, the authors examine how your life functions according to a Casual Sequence and they make a powerful argument showing that whether you know it or not and whether you want it or not, there is no escaping it as it controls your existence. In fact there is nothing in your life that does not fall within these six areas. Subsequent chapters discuss such issues as what is happiness  and how to achieve it,  nuclear energies of life, being your identities at work, activation and discreation, cause and effect, response-ability, the fatal identity and its paradigm, Space, and negative nuclear identity behaviors.

All of these topics are related to the authors’ fundamental premise that Human Quantum Energy is the Power that gets things done and if you can harness the positive energy and control or eliminate the negative energy you will be able to curtail and perhaps eliminate many of the problems that infest our work climate and even our family relationships.

DePaul and Powell are to be commended for their exposé of a subject matter that is sometimes difficult to getting a handle on and their work experience and knowledge shows particularly in the way they have explained how universal laws and principles direct how non-physical aspects of our lives control us. And in order to simplify their explanations, they have used a considerable number of visual aids in the form of equations. They have even provided a useful and extensive glossary of many of the unfamiliar terms that they use throughout their presentation as well as an Internet address where you can download a free workbook where you will find exercises to assist you in your journey. However, I would have preferred to see these exercises incorporated into the book rather than have readers download it from the Internet. I would also like to have seen at the end of every chapter summaries of the key principles expounded upon. And perhaps the inclusion of an index and a list of further recommended readings may likewise have been helpful, particularly pertaining to Psycanics on which most of the book is based.

Reading The Science of Leadership is like injecting us with information that anyone reading it will no doubt come away with an enormously improved sense of the subject and more of an understanding as to why people are the ultimate source of energy and thus the Power of an organization.
