Corporate Finance is a 926 page textbook designed for an introductory course at the undergraduate level. The text consists of 31 chapters divided into 8 parts, as follows: Part 1 (overview – chapters 1 through 3), Part II (valuation and capital budgeting – chapters 4 through 8), Part III (risk – chapters 9 through 12), Part IV (capital structure and dividend policy – chapters 13 through 18), Part V (long-term financing – chapters 19 through 21), Part VI (options, futures, and corporate finance – chapters 22 through 25), Part VII (short-term finance – chapters 26 through 28), and Part VIII (special topics – chapters 29 through 31).A brief author biography and preface are included at the beginning of the text.Appendices and an index are include at the end of the text.
I first used an earlier edition of this text in the mid-1980s, when lecturing at the University of Arizona.I used a later edition of this text in the summer of 1996, while teaching at the University of New Brunswick in St. John (Canada).I selected this latest edition of the Ross, Westerfield and Jaffe Corporate Finance text, after a review of alternatives, for a course by the same name for Penn Foster, Inc.
As one might expect of a text in its eighth edition, this text is well-developed, well-organized, and no errors were detected.I found it to be complete and yet parsimonious in its coverage of the material. This text has my highest possible recommendation, both as a text for the coverage of Corporate Finance at the undergraduate (or graduate MBA) level, and as a possible desk or library reference book.

Norm
What was your objective in writing your book and whom did you feel would best profit from reading it?

160 Degrees of Deviation: The Case for the Corporate Cynic by Jerome Alexander
The following review was contributed by
PAUL LAPPEN
Even the best organizations have good intentions when
instituting new plans or policies. Something always
seems to go wrong, because of a type of manager called
the 160 Degree Deviator. These are people with their
own agendas who damage company morale and cause
frustration to rise. The reason that they aren't
called 180 Degree Deviators is that the author gives
the company 20 degrees ""credit"" for having the right
idea....
