Author: Guy Cohen

Publisher: Pearson Education/Financial Times Prentice Hall (Upper Saddle River, NJ)

ISBN: 0131710664

The Bible of Options Strategies is a 356 page, hardbound book, with a suggested retail price of less than $53 (US).  This cost is may exceed that associate with the round-trip costs of a single, round-trip option trade, but is likely to be less than two of the same.  The author, Guy Cohen, is the creator and originator of OptionEasy, TrendSearcher, and the author of Options Made Easy: Your Guide to Profitable Trading (2nd Edition), by the same publisher.  It is comprised of 8 chapters, followed by 2 appendices: one containing a strategy table and the other, a glossary of terms.  An index is also included.

A feature that I found to be quite novel, particularly useful, and most impressive is a section that precedes the Preface.  A series of Find Your Strategy sections organize the book’s contents by (1) proficiency (e.g., novice), (2) direction (e.g., bullish), (3) volatility (e.g., high), (4) risk/reward (e.g., capped and uncapped), and (5) type (e.g., income and capital gain).  As with Guy Cohen’s other book on this topic (above), the present book is very structured and rich with content.  It is, in fact, the most complete and well-organized, single book on the topic of stock option trading that I have read, and was clearly designed for quick reference.

This book is very structured, quickly introduces technical terminology or jargon and uses it in context, and represents a thorough or complete work on the topic.  If you are looking for a single book on stock options, this would be a selection to consider.  Neophytes might prefer to start with a less comprehensive work.  Those at the intermediate level or above will not be disappointed.  As the title suggests, this book represent a “Bible” on the topic is a “definitive” work.

I consider this book to be an essential additional to the serious stock option traders’ permanent reference library on this topic.  Read it.  Reread it.  Refer to it often.  And study this book to increase your expertise in the area of stock option trading.

The following review was contributed by: S.SWAMY Why Did I Marry You Anyway? by Barbara Bartlein is an excellent Manual to create a happy and stable marriage. No doubt, there have been many books already on the subject and there will be many more in the future. But each book needs to be looked into and evaluated on its own. Does the book cover the topic well? Is it readable? Does it make sense? Are the examples close to your heart? Are the solutions suggested practical? I asked myself these...
