Do you know just how difficult it is to acquire the Hermes Birkin bag? So difficult in fact, even the rich and famous struggle to purchase one. If you’re not quite sure which bag I am talking about it is the one Victoria Beckham usually has slung on her arm. Quite a square-looking thing, usually with one buckle and handle. I can’t say I’m that impressed with them myself and the price these bags cost - it nearly took my breath away. I think anything that cost over a weeks wage, especially in the form of a handbag, is madness. However if there is one man who has a lot more enthusiasm for these bags then I can muster, it is Michael Tonello. This book is his tale about his some-what mad pursuit of “the world’s most coveted handbag.”
I’ve never come across a book like this one….a bit like the Birkin! That doesn’t mean to say it wasn’t enjoyable though. Michael is certainly a writer who does intrigue the reader even if it is on a subject you aren’t too bothered about….or maybe you are.
His quest takes him from Paris to Spain and other places where he tries to make a living out of selling these fashion accessories.
He meets women on his journey who share his passions for this bag. Like Grace, for instance, who absolutely adores them and will pay anything just to make sure her collection is maintained. These women are likened to “fashion victims” which is exactly what they are. If anyone is willing to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on a handbag, then as far as I’m concerned you must be a victim of not only fashion but of other things as well.
Still Michael shows us “how” to acquire these bags if you wish to fall victim to fashion. Basically he says if you can manage to buy one of them (almost impossible because of the long waiting list) then you should be able to make further purchasers much easier, it seems sales people are more then willing to help you if they know you mean business. It’s simply no good walking into a Hermes store wearing casual clothes - you need to look the part. That means dressing up in designer clothes…then you may just stand out.
I can’t help wondering if this information is really useful?
I suppose if you are willing to do anything to get your mits on these bags, then you will read this book right?
There are lots of moments when you are reading this where you find yourself laughing. Michael has a comedians approach to things that never fails to entertain. He writes this book in his own flamboyant style that I’m sure readers will love.
Pictures are also included - many featuring Hermes bags and one of Michael in his “Birkin-buying uniform” looking very swish!
And hey even if you can’t get the real McCoy you could always fool someone and just carry this splendid book in its book-case (which does look like the Hermes) around with you. Honestly, it is brilliantly convincing!
A wonderfully presented book that is as eye-catching as the Hermes! Buy it now for lots of laughs and entertainment.
