You must buy this book, now! After reading this book I find myself trying to “six word and count” everything. As the editors say, it’s addictive. This book is a keeper and belongs in every writer’s reference shelf, not the old dusty bookshelves where you store your classics. Editors Smith and Fershleiser both are with Smith magazine.Smith magazine was launched in 2006 and is dedicated to storytelling. The editors were inspired during National Novel Writing Month to “lower the bar” and rather than go for lengthy memoirs, to limit them to just six words. That’s right, just six words (oops, that was only five). They were also inspired by a six-word piece written by Ernest Hemingway--“For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn.”
Smith and Fershleiser sent out a clarion call for memoir entries and they weren’t disappointed. Six word memoirs rolled in by the thousands, from well-known writers to lesser known (or not known at all) writers to everyday folks.
