Don Piper is the co-author behind 90 Minutes in Heaven and also Daily Devotions Inspired by 90 Minutes in Heaven.

Cecil Murphey has published more than one hundred books and also wrote 90 Minutes in Heaven with Piper.

Is Heaven Real? Well Don Piper seems to know the answer to this much-argued question. Having spent 90 minutes in heaven, after being involved in a tragic car accident, Piper lives to tell the tale (his brush with death is well documented in his million-copy bestseller 90 Minutes in Heaven).

From these roots, Piper decided to write his next book hoping to help people understand that there is life after death and that God exists and so on with the lessons he’s learned since he died on January 18, 1989 and arrived at the gates of heaven.

In this book we explore many things and read questions people asked the author. Even after Piper tried to convince everyone that he had indeed died (he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the EMTs) yet more sceptics came up with questions about his death.

“How do you know it was real?” they asked. It was very clear to the disbelievers that this “death” could easily have been a near-death experience (NDE). Of course it may have been a NDE, if you are to doubt the qualified EMT’s verdict that they made on that dreadful day. However Piper insists that he did die, no doubt in his mind. He just found himself at heaven, facing the gates. There was no mistake in his mind, he insists he definitely died and that the heaven  he saw was exactly as the Bible interrupted. For example, being with loved ones who had passed to the other side, the literal streets of gold and how when you go to heaven your “body” is absolutely perfect. More perfect then it has been in life. From these things to have happened to Piper, he truly believes that God is real and He does exist.

Piper tells us that children have much difficulty understanding the concept of

death but from what the author tells us in this book, I am having difficulty too. Surely when you die, you don’t find yourself at the gates of heaven with streets of gold and perfect people? All these things seem a little too extraordinary, maybe they are real who knows for sure, only Don Piper does or so he says.

Piper tells us that many times when his fans greet him, they are amazed he’s in such good condition after the horrific crash he suffered. Quite frankly I feel pretty damn amazed myself because if he did indeed go to heaven for the supposed 90 minutes, he would have suffered brain damage (despite his denial on this) and would certainly not be able to recall the event, let alone write a book about it.

Nice as all of this may seem, and for those who believe the author really did land at heaven’s gate - we’re all entitled to our own opinions,  I feel that perhaps this was just a hoax. Something that people will always believe in because, to be honest, do any of us like the thought of dying? I feel that a lot of people believe in life after death simply because they are afraid that there could be nothing after they die.

Don Piper may believe that he was dead for 90 minutes, but quite frankly I don’t know what to make of all of it. Is it true or not? Only Piper knows the real truth. A really interesting book, thought-provoking in almost every chapter. Perfect if you enjoyed Piper’s previous read.
