Alli Westover provides a look at how the NASA SPACE SHUTTLE works from the perspective
of children.
Youngsters will soar into space with the astronauts and enjoy
learning about all the multitude of tasks that are involved in launching a NASA
space shuttle.
Thrills keep on coming, as all of the action is brought to life
pertaining to the engineers, divers, tanks full of water, and the
astronauts, who practice putting the Space Station together.
Some "mummies" are involved with sewing the astronaut suits, while others
work on Mission control. Computers are also used on the Space Shuttle and Space
Station. There are even doctors, and some "mommies" say "lift off," when it is time
for the astronauts to blast off into space.
Some "daddies" walk around the Space Shuttle and make sure it is safe before it
blasts off into outer space. It is a team effort and Westover, an engineer
herself, has mastered the team work to perfection.
Young readers are sure to be enthralled by the brilliant illustrations that are
skillfully rendered by illustrator Brenton Packer depicting the principal
characters of the NASA SPACE SHUTTLE team.
This attractive title is a welcome addition to early readers and learners
and should prove to be ideal for public libraries and schools.
One last comment, I noticed that where the copyright symbol was attributed to the images, it should have been followed by the name of the illustrator and not the author.
