“Carole Blake has been a song lyrist for over 30 years. Several of her songs – from Disco to Country to Children’s Songs – have been recorded and released on various record labels. She also was an executive producer of the motion picture “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia”, starring Dennis Quaid. She had been a feature writer for several newspapers in Long Island where she lives. Her writings are usually humorous and tend to reflect life as she sees it from the perspective of a woman…well…not getting any younger, but having a lot of fun on the “ride”.
Being over 40 is tough for some women, but not so for Ms. Blake. She can find humor in even what should be a more serious situation. Take for example her chapter about living with “what’s-his-name,” better known as the boyfriend, lover, better half, etc. Blake suggests that anyone in this position might not want to use those terms for their significant other. She relates a restaurant story where she obviously has frequented with other sweethearts and the waiter still addresses her by the last one’s name – “Franklin.” Of course her name was never Franklin, but explaining takes back seat to eating.
Blake’s mother is mentioned throughout the book, too, and she learns that she has become her mother! While most of us choose to ignore this simple fact of life, Blake embraces it with humor. Now is she could only “project” she would have few problems.
From turkey necks to A-team fall-down-like-the-London-Bridge aerobics to the stress test and flinging underwear, Blake captures life’s little moments in a stress-less fashion – with composed humor. She talks to us about the rich and famous, DMV blues, and adventures in babysitting – moving from one subject to the next with ease and insight. There ‘s a story for almost every situation and Blake finds the funny bone in life -- while many of us are still wondering about our turkey necks and fallen faces.
This book would make an excellent gift for someone needing a good laugh – at life.

You would think that with the title page, the author’s sports medical background, the cover showing pills, and the plugs on the cover and back that this would be a novel about the use of performance enhancing drugs in sports. Wrong. It is not until page 210 before you get to what you were made to...
